Columbia Eye Clinic’s William G. Brown Named Optician of the Year
William G. (Grant) Brown has been named Optician of the Yearby the South Carolina Association of Opticians. The award is presented annually to the optician who demonstrates excellence in the field of opticianry.
“By promoting his excellence in the field of eye care, Grant is making a positive and lasting impact on many lives,” commented Margie Chapman, Vice President and Convention Chairman of the South Carolina Association of Opticians. “Without people like him, our association would not grow.”
Brown, Optical Department Manager at Columbia Eye Clinic, oversees the optical and contact lens dispensaries at all three locations and also handles special projects for the practice. Brown is one of fewer than 400 nationwide to receive the American Board of Opticianry Master (ABOM) designation. As a Master in Ophthalmic Optics, Brown demonstrates an advanced level of opticianry knowledge not only to his clients but also to his colleagues.
“To be recognized by my peers and the South Carolina Association of Opticians is a profound honor,” commented Brown. “It is also a challenge to me and all in opticianry to continually present ourselves as dedicated professionals.”
Licensed in 1977, Brown is a Fellow of the National Academy of Opticianry, an Honored Fellow of the Opticians Association of America and a Member of the SouthCarolina Association of Opticians. He and his wife Sandra live in Lexington and have three daughters.
